Splash park is one step closer as council pledges cash towards the project

Summer fun.
Summer fun.

A splash park for little ones in Hemel Hempstead has come one step closer after council bosses agreed to foot half of the bill for the project.

Campaigner Ben Armstrong met with town MP Mike Penning and Dacorum Borough Council leader Andrew Williams today (Wednesday).

During the meet up Mr Williams pledged that the council will pay half of the bill - approximately £150,000 - on the condition that campaigners come up with the rest of the cash.

They hope to do this through sponsorship from local businesses and fundraising events.

Chaulden dad-of-three Ben said: “With the interest that we have got and the input that we are getting from people we should be able to do it.

“All we really need to concentrate on is trying to get local businesses involved and some fundraising.”

Ben revealed that Mr Williams looked into the possibility of a splash park back in 2012 but could not secure the sponsorship to pay for it.

An online petition calling for the fun water facility in Gadebridge Park has so far attracted more than 2,000 signatures.

It is hoped that the splash park will be up and running in time for the summer months of 2016.
