Shops ready for festivity, but fear for future

THE winners of this year’s Berkhamsted Christmas Shop Window competition have been announced.

Charity shop Number Twenty in Lower Kings Road was ranked overall best, with decorations including lanterns, candles and Christmas stockings.

Manager Sarah Coles said she had been planning the display since the middle of the year with her deputy Nicola Harvey.

Sarah said: “We were both absolutely delighted.”

Runners-up included Airs & Graces, Ann Maries, Home & Colonial and David Paul – all based in the the town’s High Street. Luminous & Vogue, of Lower Kings Road, also received one of the runners-up commendation certificates.

The awards were staged by Berkhamsted Citizens Association and Berkhamsted Town Council on Sunday.

Association chairman Susan Johnson presented the awards and urged people to ‘use or lose’ their high street shops.
