A new family run coffee shop that uses produce shipped in from Italy has been opened in Hemel Hempstead’s town centre.
MP Mike Penning officially opened Cappuccio in Marlowes alongside Dacorum Mayor Gbola Adeleke.
It has been founded by sisters Barbara Prearo Birnie and Antonella Prearo, along with Barbara’s husband Jonathan Birnie and Antonella’s partner Cristiano Pecora-Lauria.
They decided to set up shop after hearing of the town centre regeneration works, which were recently completed
A chef was brough over from Southern Italy, where the sisters run a beach resort, to craft the coffee shop’s menu using authentic Italian produce, which is complimented by Italian coffee, wine and beers.
Jonathan said: “We are unique because we are the only authentic provider of food and wine from Italy in Hemel Hempstead.
“We think the people of Hemel Hempstead are ready to be more interested in culturally diverse produce.
“It is not the normal pre-packed, pre-made sandwiches.
“It is all freshly made, unique and very high quality.”
The coffee shop is open Monday to Saturday 7.30pm to 6pm, Sunday 10am to 5pm. A late night opening until around 8pm is being trailed on Thursdays.
Mr Penning said: “Definitely another great asset for our town.”
