Scooter rider in critical but stable collision after road smash as police call for witnesses


Police have put out a fresh appeal for information about a serious road smash that left a man critically ill on Thursday.

He and the passenger on his blue Vespa scooter were in collision with a Peugeot 206 travelling in the opposite direction in Northchurch High Street at about 4.20pm.

The silver car had been turning right into Darr’s Lane.

The rider of the scooter – a 47-year-old man from Hemel Hempstead – is now in a critical but stable condition. He was taken to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel after the smash.

His passenger – a 42-year-old woman from Hemel Hempstead – also suffered serious injuries and was taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury. She remains in a serious condition.

The driver of the Peugeot – a 31-year-old man from Tring – was not injured.
