A ROAD was shut to traffic after overhead cables caught fire and fell.
Hemel Hempstead fire service rushed to the scene in Nettleden Road, Little Gaddesden, at 9.30am on Monday to deal with the electricity pylon.
Crew commander Paul Adams said: “The fuses had exploded and cables had dropped down and were live.”
The road was closed for about 90 minutes. Nearby homes were left without power until about 2.40pm. A power surge is thought to have caused the fire.
