Police investigating the theft of a purse containing its elderly owner’s pension and fuel allowance have released a CCTV image of a woman they wish to speak to as part of their inquiries.
An 86 year old woman was doing her shopping in the Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead, on November 25 between midday and 2pm when her purse was stolen from her trolley bag, police revealed today.
The purse contained the woman’s pension and fuel allowance and police revealed she has suffered ill health due to the stress caused by the theft.
PC Laura Brine is investigating the incident and hopes members of the public will play a vital role.
She said: “This theft occurred just before the Christmas period and the woman has been unable to get any of the money back, which left her without it at a busy time of the year. The victim has also suffered ill health since the theft due to the stress it caused.
“I would like to identify the woman pictured as she may have witnessed the incident or have information that could assist my investigation. Anyone who believes they know who she is should contact me.”
Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact PC Brine via Hertfordshire Constabulary’s non-emergency number 101.
