A selection of the opportunities available this week through Volunteer Centre Dacorum.
Are you a budding news editor? Would you be up for the challenge of producing a quality newsletter for Age UK Dacorum that will celebrate their activities, campaign on issues of interest and provide useful information for their many readers?
The charity offers a range of services for people over 50 that includes a befriending service, day centres and lunch clubs as well as a handyperson scheme and support for people who have just left hospital.
The right volunteer will work independently, but with support from a staff member.
They should have good IT skills, be creative and enthusiastic with an eye for detail.
Each newsletter is likely to take around eight hours to put together and this could be done at the Age UK office in Hemel Hempstead’s Old Town, or from home.
Volunteer mentors are needed to support young people aged between 11 and 19 who are facing a range of challenges.
These might include low self-esteem, bullying, anger management or practical issues such as making the move to independent living.
Volunteer mentors should be good communicators with the ability to motivate and inspire a young person.
Following an initial three day training course, each mentor is matched with a young person who will require regular support for a period between six and 12 months. Volunteers should be 21 or over.
Patient volunteers with good people skills are needed to help out on either Mondays or Wednesdays at the Heather Club that runs from Carey Baptist Church in Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead
The club offers a caring and friendly setting where members who are frail or elderly and may have memory problems can enjoy socialising and a range of stimulating activities.
In the mornings, members and volunteers often play a range of table games then enjoy a cooked lunch before taking part in a sing along or trying out some armchair exercises.
The club runs from 10am until 3pm and volunteers can help for part or all of that time.
