Put your best foot forward to support hospice’s wacky fundraising drive

A hospice which provides 24 hour for people with life-limiting illnesses is encouraging people to step up and join in with their latest fundraising initiative.

Rennie Grove Hospice Care wants people to wear their funkiest footwear for one day only in a bid to raise much-needed funds for its work.

So if you’ve got a pair of snappy slippers, lairy loafers or eye-catching espadrilles languishing at the bottom of the wardrobe, give them an airing and show your support for the charity that enables people to receive hospice-type care in their own homes.

The charity, based on Icknield Way in Tring, came up with the groovy fundraising idea as a tribute to its nurses who spend a lot of time on their feet each day.

Rennie Grove’s community fundraising manager Penny Crosswell said: “Our specialist nurses walk an average of 12,000 steps a day, so we thought it was fitting to have a day that focused on shoes and encouraged people to step up to help us care for even more patients in the future.”

Rennie Grove is asking people to wear their chosen shoes on June 6 in return for a minimum donation of £1. In the lead up to the day examples of suitable footwear will be posted on the charity’s Facebook page, along with ideas on how to pimp up your regular shoes such as threading through a pair of brightly coloured laces.

Penny said: “We really want people to get creative with their footwear for this special day and we’re especially looking for groups, schools and businesses to join in too.

“If you want to get involved with your work colleagues, school friends or members of your group or club we’d love to hear from you.”

If you’d like to get involved, call the fundraising team on 01442 890222 who will send out an information pack to get you started.
