A pub manager has been nominated to undertake The Ice Bucket Challenge.

Dave Croft, who runs The Paper Mill in Apsley, will be covered in freezing cold water in the name of charity tonight at 8.30pm.

He hopes to raise cash and awareness of motor neurone disease.

Dave was nominated by friends in Canada and will undertake his challenge in the garden of the pub.

He said: “People have said I am absolutely mad for doing this, but I am never one to turn down a challenge, especially when it is raising awareness for such a good cause.

“All I ask is for people to donate generously and I will be allowing the person who donates the most to pour the bucket over me.

“I must also admit that I am going to enjoy nominating three people to do it after me, first person that springs to mind is my area manager.”

The Ice Bucket Challenge was launched by the ALS Association in the US to raise money and awareness of ALS or motor neurone disease as it’s known in the UK.

In the UK, Macmillan Cancer Support and Motor Neurone Disease Association have taken on the campaign, asking people to donate after completing the challenge.

Motor neurone disease is a progressive disease that attacks the motor nerves causing muscle weakness and wasting. There is currently no cure.
