This year’s Poppy Appeal in Berkhamsted has broken previous records by raking in a staggering £25,000 and more cash is still flooding coming in.

The Royal British Legion-run scheme that supports British servicemen and woman past and present has had a bumper year in the town.

Organiser Keith Bayliss puts it down to having a strong team of volunteers dedicating their time to the cause.

He said: “I have got a really good team and we decided to really push it this year.

“We canvassed every single shop and pub in Berkhamsted and put collection cans in 99 per cent of them this year.”

Last year the Poppy Appeal, which runs from October, raised £17,000 through generous donators in Berkhamsted. The latest total has broken the town’s previous collection record of £23,000.
