A petition for a splash park in Hemel Hempstead has been put on the agenda by councillors.

Dacorum Borough Council has said the call for the fun water facility in popular Gadebridge Park will be discussed at a full council meeting.

It comes after a dad-of three launched a petition in a bid to get better facilities for little ones.

Ben Armstrong, of Chaulden, has teamed up with other parents to call for action after being unimpressed by damaged equipment and broken glass when visiting the children’s playground within the park.

So far the petition on has attracted more than 1,500 signatures.

Leader of the borough council, Councillor Andrew Williams, said: “A splash park in Gadebridge Park is something we would love to be able to provide, subject to gaining the funding. If there is support for a local issue like this, we will discuss it at a full council meeting.”

The next full council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, when the splash park suggestion is expected to be discussed.

Ben said: “I’m glad that they have taken us seriously.

“We are going to carry on getting as many people behind us as we can.”

Ben and others are holding a family picnic in the park, next to the children’s play area, this Sunday from 12.30pm to raise awareness of their campaign. The council has asked that people do not take barbecues or alcohol to the event.
