GET the Gazette this week to read the story of how Les Bushell became a retained firefighter.
The 35-year-old works as a caretaker by day at Berkhamsted School in Charles Street – but is on call 24/7 to fight fires in the town.
He rushes to a fire station in the same road each time his emergency pager goes off, and could be tackling a blaze shortly after that.
There are eight retained firefighters at Berkhamsted Fire Station, and more are being recruited. Apply at www.hertsdirect.org/fire.
Or you can buy the Gazette this week to read more about what the job is like.
