CHILDREN described it as an avalanche when this tree collapsed during lessons at Westbrook Hay Prep School.
Treelife tree surgeons are now working all week at the school in Hemel Hempstead.
The Berkhamsted-based company were called in to chop up the remains, which will be used creatively a the school.
Bursar Mark Evans said: “It happened a few weeks ago without any warning. The children described it as an avalanche.
“We knew these trees had a habit of collapsing when they get old so that area was out of bounds. We are sad to lose it as it date back about 300 years.”
