A CHARITABLE pub has handed over a cheque for £1,000 to The Hospice of St Francis.

The cash was donated by punters at The George and Dragon pub in Northchurch High Street during its Wednesday night quiz contests since November.

Landlord Mick Owens said: “We said we would get to £1,000 in donations and then get them down and give them it.”

The pub has now handed the cash over to the Northchurch charity, but is still helping fundraise for the good cause. Its quiz nights start at 9pm.
