Dacorum’s new mayor has taken up his office – and promptly headed to Buckingham Palace!
Councillor Gbola Adeleke took up the role at a ceremony held on May 20 at Hemel Hempstead Civic Centre, which saw departing mayor Allan Lawson hand over the chain and robe to his successor.
And just days later Mr Adeleke attended the Queen’s Garden Party in his capacity as mayor.
He told the Express: “Every year the mayor gets invited to the Garden Party and I was lucky enough to be in the role for this year.
“It was a real honour, and one of the highlights was meeting Prince Philip. He was a fantastic man, who asked me about Dacorum and my role as mayor. He is obviously as very busy man but he seemed to have all the time in the world for me.”
Mr Adeleke has nominated The Rennie Grove Hospice as his chosen charity for the mayoral year. He previously served as the deputy mayor of Dacorum.
