Minister swaps saving cash to pull more in for charity

TREASURY minister David Gauke took time out from dealing with the economy to pull some pints on Friday night.

The South West Herts MP was at The Old Mill in London Road, Berkhamsted, from 7.30pm for a party to celebrate everything the town has to offer.

His visit was part of a campaign encouraging MPs across the UK to do a shift at a local pub to better understand the industry.

The Made in Berkhamsted event was staged for Northchurch-based The Hospice of St Francis and made more than £5,000 for the charity.

A silent auction was also held during the event.

Speaking from behind the bar, Mr Gauke said: “It’s great to be here tonight and I’m very happy to help promote a very good cause.”
