Students from the Canary Islands could miss out on an educational trip to England this summer unless more host families come forward from Hemel Hempstead.

The Spanish pupils, aged between 13 and 16, face disappointment if people in the town are unable to accommodate them for their three-week visit to the area, which would see them improving their written and spoken English and taking in the sights of nearby London.

Hemel Today previously reported on an appeal for host families by the Herts and Essex English School, which helps organise the stay.

But not enough have come forward and there are still many students without a Dacorum base for their holiday, which could mean it is cancelled.

Elizabeth Williams, owner of Herts and Essex English School which organises the stay, said: “We have some wonderful host families in the area, but we desperately need more to enable as many students as possible to make this trip. This is a great opportunity if your child is learning spanish to have a native speaker in the house. It is also a great way to make some extra money for the summer.”

The visiting students have a full and varied programme featuring English lessons, day trips and acitivities so will be out for most of the day, though are expected to spend evenings and weekends speaking English with their host families.

The trips are due to take place in June and July. Call 0800 500 3077 as soon as possible if you can help.
