A RIOT of colour filled Bovingdon High Street this week during the annual hanging baskets competition.
The judging took place last Wednesday with Vic Coe, a member of the Middlesex Guild of Horticultural Judges, declaring that this year’s entries were of an ‘extremely high standard’.
The top slot was awarded to electrical firm F.J. Parish & Son.
The Memorial Hall bagged second place and third place honours went to J’s Cafe.
Each year baskets, paid for by a grant from the village parish council, are supplied to shopkeepers by the Bovingdon & District Horticultural Society.
The winners will be presented with their prizes at the society’s summer/ autumn show on Saturday, September 10, at Bovingdon Memorial Hall.
Councillor Diana Smart of the parish council’s outdoor committee said: “The baskets helped to brighten up the village.”
She added that it is clear that people are enjoying the displays of blooms.
