Hemel’s Gabriella Gatehouse hopes public votes will help her conquer famous beauty pageant.

Taking on the Universe isn’t something everyone can say they will do this year.

But beauty queen Gabriella Gatehouse, 19, is doing just that, by competing in the Miss Universe Great Britain pageant.

And the former Oaklands College student, who has already appeared in UK Vogue and at London Fashion Week is excited to be representing our town at the June contest.

She said: “I am extremely excited for Miss Universe Great Britain. I have worked extremely hard and have put in a lot of effort, so hopefully it pays off.

“There are lots of strong contestants this year, and I believe this is the strongest year yet. However I like to think I am a strong contender, but whether I can win I’m not sure.

“I just pray, hope and work my hardest.”

The Hemel beauty, who currently has a boyfriend, said she hopes to have a career in acting.

First, though, she must negotiate what is something of a complex system on the journey to being crowned the most beautiful woman in the Universe.

Gabriella explained: “There are many rounds in the pageant, one of which is extremely import, that is the public vote.

“The contestant with the most votes will be given a 15-point headstart on the evening of the final and will receive an award called ‘The People’s Choice’.

“The girl who gets the second highest public vote will receive a 10-point headstart; and the girl who gets the third highest public vote will get a five-point headstart.

“All I can say is please vote for me, and help me get ahead in the competition, it would mean so much.”

The first round of voting is taking place now.
