Cancer victim defies the odds to trek Himalayas

A DYING woman will trek across the Himalayas to help repay the hospice that is helping care for her.

Fifty-year-old Yvonne Petagine will spend two days helping at a Delhi cancer centre before hiking across the foothills of the Dhauladhur Range.

She will then take in the sights of the Taj Mahal in Agra and the Red Fort in India’s capital city.

Yvonne wants to “give something back” to the Berkhamsted-based Hospice of St Francis.

When she was diagnosed in April 2009 with a breast tumour, doctors told her, “Do not plan anything more than six months ahead.”

But against the odds, today she is a still in full-time employment working as a facilities manager for Three Rivers District Council.
