Hay bale racing isn’t the type of activity you’d see at Crufts, but Dacorum’s doggy elite gave it a good go at the Paws on the Moors event organised by the Box Moor Trust.

Organised in association with Dacorum Borough Council and Appledown Kennels, the dog show raised £260 for the rehoming and rescue centre.

The event was aimed at promoting responsible dog ownership in the community and also featured a dog bite prevention talk by puppy trainer Karen Tonge, who also judged the day’s categories.

Speaking of the hay bale racing, which was run by Helen Wainwright of Benchbark dog training, the Box Moor Trust’s Elaine Rushton said: “Some dogs were naturals and others not so sure, but good fun was had by all.

“The event was a great success and well-supported by the community. We would like to say a big thank you to all those involved in making it happen, particularly Karen Tonge, Helen Wainwright, Julie Shelton of Appledown, Dawn Rhoden and her team at the borough council, and all the Box Moor Trust volunteers who helped on the day.

“I would also like to thank Barking Heads (UK Pet Foods) for generously sponsoring the show classes.”
