Gas tanks pulled from burning car at Hemel junction

AN explosion was avoided this morning when a car carrying tanks of propane and oxygen went up in flames.

Firefighters believe the fire in the Land Rover on the southbound exit for Hemel Hempstead on the M1 started accidentally.

Crews were called to the scene at 8.29am and while fighting the fire pulled out the two tanks.

No one was injured during the incident.

The Highways Ag ency closed the entire sliproad before reopening one lane at 9.14am.
