A FIREFIGHTER went back to his old school - but this time as the teacher.

Stuart Saunders visited at Ashlyns School in Chesham Road, Berkhamsted, on Thursday to show 49 excited youngsters how to put out fires.

He rolled up in his fire engine with six colleagues from Hemel Hempstead Fire Station in Queensway.

They showed children the hose reel, the axe for breaking down doors, and cutting equipment used to free people involved in road accidents.

The event was for Berkhamsted youngsters from Bridgewater Middle School in Bridle Way and The Thomas Coram C of E Middle School in Swing Gate Lane.

Event organiser Sarah Sibeon said: “He was quite shy, but I think he really enjoyed being back.”
