Farm machinery was used to create a fire break after a blaze broke out on a Northchurch farm yesterday afternoon.

A total of three fire crews from Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead fire stations attended the scene shortly after 2.30pm, where around 60 tonnes of muck was on fire.

The large heap of manure – in close proximity to standing crop – was well alight, causing firefighters to create a barrier to prevent flames from spreading to the produce.

The break was formed by farm equipment and two hose reels were used to put out the blaze.

The scene was made safe by around 3.20pm.
