Fire crews called to Apsley after child’s cable drum drama

Fire crews were called to a nursery in Apsley this morning after a toddler got his thumb stuck in a metal cable drum.

Hemel Hempstead’s White Watch were called to Positive Steps Day Nursery in Mill Street at 9.54am and released the child’s thumb using a pair of tin snips.

A fire station spokesman said: “The nursery uses the cable drums for learning and play, and he just was exploring as young children do.

“It was an unfortunate accident. He wasn’t happy when we got there, but the relief on his face afterwards was tangible.”

The toddler didn’t require a trip to hospital and was given minor first aid on site.
