TRADERS leave behind a trail of rubbish after Berkhamsted’s markets, town leaders say.
Berkhamsted Town Council has been arguing with them for months about who causes the mess and who is responsible for clearing it.
Berkhamsted Market Fund says bins are full before traders even arrive at the weekend.
It says Dacorum Borough Council should reinstate the emptying of bins at weekends – the busiest period of the week for take-away food and its packaging.
But at a meeting of Berkhamsted Town Council’s transport and environment committee on Monday, the group said traders are responsible for taking away their own mess.
Councillor Tom Ritchie said: “I cannot understand how they cannot be responsible for the making good of the mess that they inevitably make.”
