PUPILS from across the county descended on a Berkhamsted school to meet a top author.
Award-winning Michael Morpurgo, the author of acclaimed First World War story War Horse – already turned into a West End hit and soon to be a blockbuster film directed by Steven Spielberg – visited Ashlyns School as part of a creative writing masterclass for Key Stage 3 students.
120 pupils from schools across Hertfordshire were looked after during the event by a team of Ashlyns students.
Michael gave a presentation and read to the children at the masterclass on the theme of untold stories.
Pupils had the chance to talk with Michael individually, asking him about his inspirations and interests, and to get their favourite book by the author signed.
The children also continued to develop and practise the skills and techniques they had learnt from the former children’s laureate during the event, preparing their submissions for a county-wide writing competition.
