CCTV images of the robbers who targeted two Hemel Hempstead betting shops in the space of a week have been released by police as part of an appeal for information.

The pictures relate to two robberies in branches of Coral, the first of which took place on Monday, May 5 at Bennetts Gate. The second occurred on Monday, May 12 at the Adeyfield branch in Queen’s Square, when a gun was waved at a cashier before cash was stolen.

The two incidents are believed to be linked.

Two men, aged 40 and 37 and from the town, were arrested on suspicion of robbery with the aid of a police helicopter last week.

The men have now been released on police bail and must return to a police station on July 11.

Det Sgt Ben Freeman, investigating, said: “I would like to make a specific appeal to anyone who believes they recognise the clothing shown in these images to contact police with information. The top is quite distinctive so if you can assist us please do call.

“I would also like to appeal to anyone who has any information about either incident and who has not already spoken with police to contact us.

“Local officers are continuing our patrols in the area to provide reassurance following the incidents.”

Anyone with information in relation to either of these incidents is urged to call Det Sgt Freeman on the non-emergency number 101, citing crime reference D1/14/2831. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
