Did you see man mown down by car in assault?

A man has been left with minor injuries after being mown down by a car in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information about the assault in George Street, which is thought to have happened after the victim witnessed a punch-up in the Old Town.

The victim, a man aged 35, was walking along the path at around 3.15am on October 4, when a green salon car was driven at him.

He was forced to jump onto the car, and was thrown off as the car drove away.

DC Andy Roseblade from the town’s local crime unit, investigating, said: “We believe the victim had witnessed an assault just moments before in the High Street, where another man was punched to the face, and he was looking to stop the offenders.

“Thankfully he only sustained minor injuries but they could have been much worse.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area of George Street at this time and may have seen or witnessed this incident.

“Please contact me as soon as possible if you have any information which could assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Roseblade on the police non-emergency number 101, quoting the crime reference number D1/14/6015. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
