Visitors to Christmas lights events in Dacorum are being warned by police to be aware of pick-pockets.
Sgt Adele Hopkin of the Tring Safer Neighbourhood team said that this year there has been a marked increase in purse dipping across the borough.
She said: “There was one last year compared to nine this year so people should take care in crowded shops where there are lots of shelves and products and no CCTV cameras, particularly in independent shops.
“Nine may seem like a small figure but the increase means there is something going on because traditionally we get one or two a year.
“The message is to zip up your bag and put your purse at the bottom or inside a compartment.”
