CROOKS slashed the tyres of an Audi A4, smashed its rear windscreen and tried to set it on fire.

They targeted the vehicle left in the car park of St Mary’s First School in New Road, Northchurch, between 9.30pm on Friday, March 11, and 11.30am on Saturday, March 12.

Yobs damaged the driver’s side of the car and slashed its four tyres. They then returned at around 2.45am on Sunday, March 13 to break its back window and tired to set it alight but made off when they were disturbed by a member of the public.

School headteacher Sarah Jones said nearby homes have permission to park on school grounds overnight.

She said: “I have been here for six years now, and I have never heard of this happening before.”
