‘Make train station road safer’

A POLICE Community Support Officer says there could be a serious injury or death on a dangerous road.

PCSO Steve Patton makes the comment in a report to Berkhamsted Town Council about incidents he has dealt with during a three-month period in the town.

He was called to help a driver who had crashed into railings in Lower Kings Road near the town’s train station on June 12.

But in the report he said: “The cause of the accident was due to the road not being fit for purpose with no kerb as a safety measure.”

He writes that if nothing is done, “there may be a serious injury or death due to the road being unsafe.”

The other accident police were called to was on May 18 and police have now stepped up patrols there to try and tackle the problem, he said.

Herts Highways spokesman Tom Shipp said: “We will speak to the police about their concerns.”
