SAFETY messages on using taxis in the borough this Christmas time has been given by the council.
Dacorum Borough Council has given tips on how to make sure taxis are genuine.
Its Hackney carriages always have a yellow plate on the rear and a smaller one on the windscreen and a sign on the roof saying ‘taxi’. They must display and use a meter with a council tariff.
Private hire taxis used a white plate and signs on the doors giving the name of the operator. They cannot pick up fares without being pre-booked. The council advise not to get in the car if the driver does not have a badge and to share taxis with friends if possible.
