A MAN from Hemel Hempstead has been charged with rapes going back 24 years.

John Anthony Walker, of Moor End Lodge in Cotterells, faces two counts of rape and two of indecent assault.

The 51-year-old appeared before magistrates in High Wycombe last Wednesday, where he was remanded in custody until his next court date at Aylesbury Crown Court on Monday.

Officers from Thames Valley Police Force’s Major Crime Review Team swooped on Mr Walker’s home in the morning on October 4.

The first alleged rape took place on October 16, 1987 – the evening a hurricane dramatically hit south east England.

The victim, a 25-year-old woman, had left Wembley Park tube station and was attacked and raped a short distance away.

The second alleged offence took place on the platform of Marlow Railway Station in Bucks in the evening on April 5, 1989 when an 18-year-old girl was grabbed by a man who forced her along the platform to a workman’s hut where she was raped.

The Major Crime Review Team has the job of reviewing and reinvestigating unsolved crimes including murders and serious sexual offences.
