Council plans social media takeover to answer questions over much-criticised bin collections

Recycling advisors are taking over Dacorum Borough Council’s social media to answer your questions over its new bin collection services, which have drawn a wave criticism from residents since the rollout last month.

Wondering where to put cardboard in your new recycling bins? Looking for tips to reduce your waste this Christmas? Or, like the dozens of people who have written to the Gazette recently, have you got a gripe about the new bin collections in Dacorum?

Well recycling advisors will be taking over the council’s social media from 10am to 12pm on Thursday December 18 to answer residents’ questions about recycling and the new Recycle for Dacorum bin collection service that started last month.

If you’re on Facebook, go to and post your question. Or you can tweet @dacorumBC on Twitter and follow the discussion using the hashtag #R4D.

Karen Wyatt, one of the team from the council who will be answering questions, said: “Recycle for Dacorum has been up and running for a few weeks now, and most people are getting used to the new bins and collections.

“But we know that many of our residents still have questions about how the new scheme works and how they can recycle more. I’ll be on hand from 10am to midday on Thursday 18 December to answer questions on Facebook and Twitter, so please get in touch.”

Despite numerous complaints over the way the rollout has been handled and operates, the council says it will make it easier for people to recycle more. “Our residents are already pretty good at doing their bit for the environment, but we want to take recycling rates from the current 48% to 60%,” Karen Wyatt added.
