A brand new club night for people with learning difficulties is being launched.
In a first for the area the monthly event, put on by Dacorum Mencap, will be held at a nightclub.
Elaine Precious, from the charity, said: “Normally when you have a club night it’s a little bit second rate for people with learning disabilities – it is normally in a church hall or working man’s club.”
The Function Rooms in Waterhouse Street, Hemel Hempstead, has agreed to host the over 18 nights, which kick off on Wednesday, August 7 and will run on the first Wednesday of each month.
Elaine said: “It is quite unusual to get a venue like that, that is not only willing but also happy to put it on regularly.
“We just want to make sure that people from far and wide know about it, so it is available not just to our members but to any other people with learning difficulties that can get here.”
Entry costs £5 but carers will be admitted for free. Friends and family are welcome.
