The team of nurses, doctors and other staff who run the children’s ward at Watford General Hospital have teamed up to launch the second Light Up The Lighthouse Ball.
The event, organised in partnership with the Hilton Hotel Watford, helps to fund additional facilities and equipment for the ward, including new toys, TVs and much more.
Starfish ward cares for children up to the age of 16. As well as looking after children with acute and chronic medical and surgical conditions, they care for children with chronic life-limiting illnesses, including cystic fibrosis, cancer and diabetes.
The focus of this year’s event will be to help fund new equipment to support older children within the service, including refurbishment of the dedicated adolescent room and nursing bay, entertainment resources as well as enhancing medical equipment.
The ball takes place at the Hilton on Friday, starting at 7pm. Tickets are £35.
The event starts with a drinks reception, followed by a three course meal including half a bottle of wine per person.
Jane Pirie is paediatric administrator for the Trust and helps organise the event. She said: “Starfish ward treats hundreds of children each year and we’re committed to making sure our youngest and oldest patients get the best possible care.
“The Light Up The Lighthouse Appeal was launched last year and the first ball was a huge success.
“So far, the appeal has raised just over £20,000 for equipment for the ward’s high dependency unit
“We’re committed to raising more and we’d love it if as many local people as possible could join us for this year’s ball.
“W)e promise a fun-filled night, with great food, music and much more.”
The organising team are also on the look out for gifts and presents for the raffle and auction.
