Challenge Yourself: Spare any wool anyone?

editorial image

Volunteer Centre Dacorum urgently needs your spare wool to help our new knit and natter group get off to a great start?

The centre has a happy band of volunteers who knit and crochet at home and are about to launch a new group that will meet at the Roundhouse in the Marlowes.

The knitters turn double knit and three or four ply wool into beautiful handmade garments.

The group collects almost a sack per week of donated items and passes them on to those in need.

The finished goods are sent to Eastern Europe and beyond. The colourful hats, scarves, jumpers and blankets bring smiles and joy and make a real difference to the lives of babies and children in Africa, India and Romania.

If you have any wool to donate or would like to know more about becoming a volunteer knitter, contact the cenre on 01442 247209 or call in and see them at the Volunteer

Carers in Hertfordshire

Carers in Hertfordshire is a charity that supports carers.

As part of the charity’s work it provides support to young carers.

These young people are aged between eight and 18 and look after an ill or disabled relative who could not manage without their help.

To give these young carers a break from their role they run events across the county and need volunteers to help with this. Ideally, you will be a driver with your own vehicle but will be matched with events that are as close as possible to where you live.

This role involves helping to set up the venue, encouraging the young carers to get the most out of the day, assisting with refreshments and also with administration at the end of the event.

Events generally take place during school holidays. Volunteers should be aged18 or over for this role.
