TRAFFIC chaos is predicted for the Maylands business park when work starts to replace water pipes.
Closures and diversions will be in place around the junction with Maylands Avenue and Wood Lane End for two months while the work takes place.
Sixty-year-old pipes are being replaced with plastic ones to reduce the chance of cracks and burst pipes.
The work, being carried out for Veolia Water by Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions Ltd, starts on Monday, August 22, with an expected completion date in mid November.
Wood Lane End at the junction of Mark Road will be closed to traffic, except for residential access, and a diversion will be in place along Maylands Avenue, Cleveland Road and then onto Mark Road. A three-way traffic light system will be set up at the junction of Wood Lane End and Maylands Avenue.
Project manager Pat West apologised but said the measures were ‘essential’. He said: “We appreciate that this is a very busy area and we are working closely with Hertfordshire Highways to do everything we can to minimise disruption.”
