Budget supermarket chain Aldi will open the doors of its second site in Hemel Hempstead in just three months, following the ‘phenomenal success’ of its Redbourn Road store launched last year.

Those passing by the London Road plot, near the entrance to the A41, will already have seen the new store’s skeleton taking shape after construction began on the site of the former Volvo dealership in February.

Around half of the store’s 37 employees – including a manager and assistant manager – have already been sourced from the area.

The German retailer’s property director Phillip Warner has now announced shoppers looking for low-priced groceries at the other end of town will be welcomed from Thursday, July 31.

Mr Warner said: “We are delighted to announce that the construction of the second Aldi store in Hemel Hempstead on London Road is well under way and we look forward to opening our doors at the end of July.

“Our store on Redbourn Road, which opened in November last year, has been a phenomenal success and we are delighted to have been so well received within the town.

“We are also really excited to be constructing a brand new store design at the London Road site to ensure that this important location in Hemel is given the prominence that it deserves.”

The new store will have a four-aisle, 1,006 sqm sales area with 81 dedicated car parking spaces and will trade from 8am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
