A WRITER will swap the spell-checks for Speedos in a fundraising swim across the English Channel.

Roger Moorhouse, of Vicarage Road, Pitstone, has written three books and is published in more than 10 languages.

Now the former Berkhamsted School pupil aims to swim the channel as part of a relay group challenge to raise cash for Aspire. The group helps pay to rehabilitate people who have suffered from spinal injury.

Roger’s books include Berlin at War, about everyday life in the city during the Second World War, and Killing Hitler – about assassination attempts on the dictator’s life.

His next book will be about the Nazi-Soviet pact in the Second World War.

Roger, who is a member of Tring Swimming Club, said: “I swim at lunchtimes to stay sane, so I can clear my mind. You need to get out and do something else, because the writing can be quite oppressive, actually.”

Roger ‘swam the Channel’ in Berkhamsted Sportspace pool in 2009.

His team of six will swim for one hour each until the channel is crossed on Wednesday, August 13.

They had to raise £1,500 each for Aspire – Roger has made £2,000 already.
