Blaze at sports centre ‘thought to be arson attack’

A late-night fire in the grounds of a sports centre is being treated as deliberate after it caused substantial damage.

Police were called to Berkhamsted Sportspace in Lagley Meadow, Berkhamsted after the fire started between 11.30pm on Friday (July 10) and 12.15am on Saturday (July 11).

A spokesman for Herts Police said the incident is being treated as arson.

It is believed the culprits set light to paper and two tyres before the blaze caused considerable damage to the nearby fence and surrounding grass area next to the basketball courts.
