The hunt is on to track down a duo of adventurers willing to take on a life-changing charity trek in Vietnam.

A total of 13 trekkers are already signed up for the once in a lifetime experience with the Hospice of St Francis.

The trek takes place from April 26 to May 6 next year passing through jungle trails, villages and rice paddles and staying overnight with locals.

Afterwards, the group returns to the capital of Hanoi to help with a community project providing help and shelter to older people with no relatives to look after them and looking after disabled children with life-threatening diseases or affected by Agent Orange - part of the chemical warfare programme used by the Americans during the Vietnam War which caused some children to be born with defects.

The minimum sponsorship requirement is £2,950 with a registration fee of £300.

But Leverstock Green grandmother Mary Fletcher, who trekked to India for the hospice, is urging people not to let the fundraising target put them off.

“Raising the money isn’t as daunting as it sounds and organising events doesn’t have to be hard – a simple four-course curry lunch or a quiz night with donated raffle prizes gives people something in return and you’ll be amazed how quickly it all adds up,” she said.

Already signed up to the fundraising adventure is hospice community nursing team members Di Parry and Liz Duro.

To boost their sponsorship they are hosting a garden party on Sunday, September 22 from 2pm to 5pm at Chestnut Lodge, Northchurch Common.

Di, who is dedicating the trek to her daughter Hannah’s friend Steph Ward who died of a brain tumour aged just 21, said: “There’ll be something for everyone from a jazz band - featuring one of our doctors, Dr Nigel Ormiston, who’s also a saxophonist - to pony rides, beat the goalie and many other attractions.”

Tickets, which should be purchased in advance by calling 07738 077166, cost £5 for adults and £3 for children, under 10s get in for free.
