One of Britain’s highest-rated character actors will be the narrator for a festive musical production.

Adrian Scarborough, best known for his roles in TV sitcom Gavin and Stacey, hit movie The King’s Speech and Downton Abbey, is lending his voice to BerkoFest’s Winter Wonderland on Saturday, November 23 and his wife Rose – already a keen supporter of the volunteer-run organisation that launched a music festival in Berkhamsted last year – is providing her stage management skills to the event.

The money raised will go toward helping to put on next year’s event.

Organisers were forced to postpone this year’s Berkofest due to funding problems and have decided to move forward by making it a bash that happens once every two years.

The Christmas musical, at the Centenary Theatre in Kings Road, will include tunes from West End musicals, opera and a cappella performances.

Adrian said: “It’s a winter concert with lots of music and dance and musical numbers, poetry and a little bit of spiritual just to welcome in the festive season.”

There will also be more festive fun during the event’s interval with a Christmas market, mulled wine and Santa’s grotto.

Adrian is taking time out of his busy schedule to make the date – he already has three TV series lined up for the new year – Edge of Heaven, Up The Women and Plebs – and will be playing the Fool in King Lear at the National Theatre from January.

He said: “I try and involve myself as much as I can, I think it is really important to be a part of your community and Berkhamsted is a very special community to be a part of.”

A Winter Wonderland runs from 4pm to 7pm. Doors open at 3pm and tickets (£5 for adults, £1 for children) are available from Scoops in the High Street, or online at
