A romance fan will fall head over heels for a chance to read love letters that were written between two Berkhamsted sweethearts during the Second World War.
The Dacorum Heritage Trust is looking for a volunteer to sift through two large boxes of love letters, put them ionto date order, transcribe them and then put them onto the trust’s collection management system.
It is hoped that once the letters have been organised a newspaper heritage article will be produced.
A helper is needed from 9.30am to 1.30pm or 2.30pm to 5.30pm on weekdays.
Computer literacy, transcribing skills and basic knowledge of databases would be an advantage but full training will be given.
> People are needed to help with the distribution of the charity magazine Age Matters.
The publication, put out by Age UK Herts, provides older people with information, advice and practical support.
Helpers will liaise with organisations and individuals via the telephone to organise distribution, deliver the magazine to premises and ensure that each location receives the relevant number of copies.
A car driver would be preferred but is not essential but volunteers should have good communication skills, be able to follow policies and procedures, flexible in working hours and have local knowledge.
> Door to door collectors are needed for a fundraising fortnight from Saturday, September 15 to Sunday, September 30 in aid of the Salvation Army. Helpers are also needed for collections at Hemel Hempstead railway station.
The good cause supports the work of the emergency services by providing refreshments, shelter and counselling at major incidents.
