GARDENERS are protesting the decision to let delivery vehicles pass through their allotments.
At a meeting of the finance and policy committee of Berkhamsted Town Council, who own Sunnyside Allotments, 18 plot-holders were there in opposition.
The body made the choice, which applies to neighbours of the Ivy House Lane site, in February after a series of private meetings.
But it said this did not amount to a right of way and residents will have to seek permission first.
At the meeting last Monday, committee chairman David Collins said: “We have had one request in the last three months that this be operated.”
But Freda Earl, chairman of Sunnyside Allotments Society, complained that her group was not consulted before the decision.
She said it could set a precedent for allowing even more vehicles onto the site in future.
After the meeting, plot-holders complained that they had not been given enough time to speak.
