Vauxhall has released official images and details of its new fully electric Corsa-e.

The all-electric supermini is the first model in Vauxhall’s programme to electrify its entire range by 2024 and sits alongside traditionally fuelled versions in the Corsa model line-up.

Earlier plans for the next-generation Corsa drawn up by GM were scrapped following the PSA Group’s buyout of Vauxhall and this all-new model was developed in double-quick time and is based on a platform and drivetrain shared with the Peugeot e-208.

The five-door Corsa is powered by a 136bhp electric motor with a 50kWh battery pack. Vauxhall say that will give the Corsa a range of 205 miles on the WLTP test cycle, extendable by up to another 40 miles if it’s driven in “eco” mode.

Performance is suitably nippy thanks to all of the motor’s 192lb/ft of torque being available instantly. It will hit 60mph in 8.1 seconds but, more importantly for an urban runaround, will hit 30mph in just 3.1 seconds.

Charging will take 30 minutes for a 0-80 per cent top-up using a rapid charger and the Corsa-e will come with an 11kW on-board charger as standard.

Vauxhall says the Corsa-e will be equipped with many advanced driver assistance systems from the class above, including adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist, two-level autonomous emergency braking and parking assist.

It will also offer touchscreens ranging from seven to 10 inches, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging and “Live Navigation” with real-time traffic information.

The Corsa-e and the recently unveiled Grandland X PHEV are the first steps in Vauxhall’s move to electrify its entire range. 2020 will see the launch of new electrified versions of the Vivaro van and the Mokka X’s replacement.

Pricing for the Corsa-e will be revealed closer to it going on sale early next year.
