CALLING all eight to 18 year-olds, Dacorum Youth Productions are launching at the Old Town Hall Theatre in Hemel this half-term and they’d like you to come along and join in.

If you’d like some hands on experience of the workings of a professional theatre this is a unique opportunity.

You can have a go at everything - from acting, dancing and writing to sound, lighting, and front of house skills.

Run by theatre professionals and directors of Flametree Productions Liz Raba and Joley Brindle, and supported by Dacorum Extended Schools, DYP organises bespoke projects all over the area - from school sessions designed to support the curriculum to lunch and afterschool clubs - the core of all the projects being ‘hands on’ learning and the development of communication skills.

With these projects continuing, the new partnership with the Old Town Hall will increase opportunities, giving participants experience in a professional theatre environment.

Manager of the Old Town Hall Theatre Sara Railson said: “The Old Town Hall has a long and rich history of working with young people across a wide variety of arts projects and events and I’m pleased we can continue this work through our relationship with Flametree and Dacorum Youth Productions. I’m delighted that DYP will be running some of their future projects at the Old Town Hall.”

Extended schools co-ordinator Lisa Britton added: “Working alongside Liz and Joley to develop an inclusive, creative and hands on project for young people across Dacorum has been an absolute delight. Their passion for what they do and their amazing ‘can do’ attitude is what has made DYP so successful.”

DYP have been chosen to participate in a scheme offering schools and youth groups the opportunity to stage their own production of Billy Elliot the Musical. Liz and Joley recently took part in a workshop in London led by the Billy Elliot team. Read their account of the day in Leisure extra.
