A comedy inspired by a real life tragedy will see hundreds of rubber ducks filling the stage at Aylesbury’s Limelight Theatre next week.
Ducks Ex Machina, which will be staged on Friday and Saturday, June 7 and 8, has been by IT consultant Sebastian Rogers and takes its inspiration from a calamitous clerical cock-up he witnessed at first hand.
He said: “I was at summer writing school recently and we were given an exercise to write a single scene about a parent/child argument. I decided to have a middle aged child and an older parent.
“When I got home I decided to turn it into a full length play and added an incident with a mistaken order that nearly put a company out of business when I worked in Aylesbury some years ago.
“Someone in marketing got their maths wrong and ordered 250,000 rubber ducks.”
That incredible true mistake is the premise for the play, but the aftermath performed on stage is entirely different from what really hapened.“The real event was a tragedy,” said Sebastian. “My play is a light hearted comic piece of drama.”
Set in a domestic kitchen there are four men and three women in the cast, dealing with the repercussions of the mistaken order.
All proceeds from the performances will go towards the continual refurbishment of Queens Park Centre.
