The director putting together Hemel Hempstead Theatre Company’s new show says it’s been a real pleasure to put together the period piece.
The curtain goes up on Dick Barton at the Boxmoor Playhouse next week, and Karina Bygate says: “When you read something that makes you laugh out loud you know it’s going to be even better when it comes off the page.
“The 1940s period is also a lovely time to portray, still close enough to feel very relevant but far enough away to poke a bit of fun at it too.
“It is a different era for most of us and it’s been a good challenge getting those very forties, clipped accents, the hairstyles, clothes and props.
The tongue in cheek musical take on the famous radio detective of the post-war period has been a popular theatre hit since it was first staged in 1999.
